NetSuite SuiteScript 2.1 Readiness

Your SuiteScript Is on Borrowed Time

NetSuite has published a phased timeline for retiring SuiteScript 1.0, 2.0, and 2.x in favor of SuiteScript 2.1, running now through 2028. The Vested Group helps you get ahead of it before it becomes a fire drill.

What's Changing

The NetSuite SuiteScript Migration Timeline

Oracle publishes the transition schedule directly in the NetSuite help documentation. It runs in four stages, starting with the release that's rolling out right now.

We expect a lot of organizations will put this off until it turns into an emergency, then try to convert everything at once under a deadline they didn't choose. Starting now, while there's still room to do this in phases, is what keeps you off that path.

Release What Changes
2026.2 SuiteScript 2.1 becomes the standard scripting model for new and existing scripts.
2027.1 SuiteScript 1.0 enters end-of-life support. Oracle will fix critical issues only. Anything else means converting to 2.1 first.
2028.1 SuiteScript 1.0 can no longer be deployed in new accounts, though it still runs in existing ones. SuiteScript 2.0 and 2.x scripts start running as SuiteScript 2.1 by default.
2028.2 Every script, new or existing, has to run on SuiteScript 2.1.

Not Just a SuiteScript 1.0 Problem
If your NetSuite environment has been customized over several years, there's a good chance it runs a mix of 1.0 and 2.0 code. NetSuite's notice covers both, along with any 2.x scripts, not just the oldest version. The scope is wider than a simple "upgrade from 1.0" headline suggests.
What Happens If You Wait
Legacy scripts rarely fail all at once. They degrade release over release until something business-critical breaks, usually without warning, often at the worst possible time. Push migration to 2028 and you're doing it against Oracle's clock instead of yours.
Why Now

Why NetSuite Is Retiring the Old Scripting Model

Modern JavaScript
SuiteScript 2.1 supports let, const, arrow functions, spread operators, and async/await. Code that used to need callback chains can be written the way JavaScript is actually written today.
Performance
The 2.1 runtime executes more efficiently and uses fewer governance resources than scripts still running on the older models.
Security
2.1 aligns with current standards for data access, integrations, and platform behavior, closing gaps the older versions weren't built to handle.
Where Support Is Going
Every future fix, enhancement, and platform capability Oracle ships is being built against SuiteScript 2.1. Scripts on the old versions stop benefiting from that work.
How The Vested Group Helps

A Structured Path From Assessment to Validated Migration

1
Assess
Inventory every custom script and identify its SuiteScript version and business impact.
2
Prioritize
Rank scripts by risk, so the highest-impact processes get attention first.
3
Migrate
Convert scripts to SuiteScript 2.1, using AI-assisted tooling where it safely speeds up the work.
4
Validate
Test in sandbox before anything touches production, so nothing breaks quietly.
Where AI Fits In

AI Handles the First Pass on Conversion

Converting a script from SuiteScript 1.0 or 2.0 to 2.1 is mostly mechanical: updating how modules load, rewriting callback based code to use async/await, matching the new record and search APIs. We use AI assisted tooling to take a first pass at that conversion, so our engineers spend their time reviewing the result and testing it against the original behavior instead of retyping code line by line.

Our inVESTED Intelligence CONTROL product does related work on the assessment side. Before each NetSuite release, it checks your specific scripts, workflows, and integrations against what's changing and flags what needs attention, which is useful for finding the scripts a SuiteScript 2.1 migration still needs to cover.

Where this shows up in the process
1 Assess: CONTROL flags which scripts, workflows, and integrations an upcoming release actually touches.
2 Migrate: AI assisted tooling drafts the SuiteScript 2.1 version of each flagged script.
3 Validate: our engineers review and test the draft against the script's original behavior before it goes anywhere near production.
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to migrate everything at once?
No. A phased plan, prioritized by business risk, is what we help you build.
Is there a deadline?
Yes, and it's published: SuiteScript 1.0 hits end-of-life support in NetSuite 2027.1, and every script has to run on SuiteScript 2.1 by 2028.2. See the timeline above for the full schedule.
What if I don't know how many custom scripts we have?
That's normal, and it's exactly where an assessment starts.
